Born in a small city in India, Anand always had an intimate connection with animals and nature. The city zoo was the first place where he got to discover his passion for wilderness. He grew up visiting it on off days, learning birds and reptiles in its gardens. At the age of 14 after travelling alone for the first time to a tiger reserve, he never looked back. He finished school and moved on to Western India travelling in search of rare mammals like striped hyaenas and wolves (lesser animals being his passion).
When he was 18, he moved to South Africa and received formal training in Nature guiding and game ranging through Field Guides Association of Southern Africa. After finishing training he was placed with a small company in Kwazulu Natal where he led/participated in tours covering South Africa, Mozambique & Swaziland. Later he worked as a game ranger in a private Big 5 Game reserve where he was responsible for day to day management of the reserve and hosting national and international guests.
He developed a deep interest in wildlife filming & photography and today aims to turn this interest into full time passion.
Finally after spending almost 3 years in Africa, India was calling back. He came back home and together with his naturalist friend Deepti (who shares most of his passions) started Prayaan India Overland, first authentic Indian overland company which is now known as Overland Expeditions India. Today he is a passionate traveler, motorcylist and is always keen to venture into the unknown.
His qualification include - Level 1 nature guide, Level 1 marine guide, Trails guide (theory), open water scuba diver and also holds a valid Wilderness First Aid training certificate.
In her late 20's Deepti found her passion for the wilderness in her backyard. Although born in a hamlet close to Kanha National Park and with a hidden passion for the outdoors, she landed up in the cities doing an office job as HR manager. Soon she realised that concrete wilderness is not her cup of tea. With the first opportunity calling her back to her home, she was at Kanha and joined a leading eco-resort as a trainee naturalist. With her deep rooted passion rediscovered and rejuvenated, Deepti started learning everything she could about nature. As opportunities kept coming, she moved to several other resorts for better experience.
This hunger to learn more and more also took her to Bandhavgarh tiger reserve where she worked for an year. This tiger paradise remained her home till she finally started Prayaan India Overland with Anand. She has travelled the length and breadth of the Sub-continent and brings immense expertise to the team. At Overland Expeditions India she is responsible for leading tours, taking care of the logistics, managing campsites and a bit of everything else. Well if on a trip, you cant find her, look around she must be busy clicking people, portraits or landscape. Birds and trees are of her prime interest and you can bank on her for their identification etc.
