Day 1 - 2: Delhi
You will be picked up from the Delhi Airport/railway station. Accommodation will be in a comfortable hostel. A short trip meeting at 18:00 hrs. City tour for visiting forts, palaces and ancient monuments. Red fort, Qutub Minar, Akshardham theme temple, Rashtrapati Bhawan. Connaught Place for shopping.
Day 3 – 5: Bharatpur bird sanctuary
Drive to Bharatpur. Accommodation in comfortable hostel. Visit to the UNESCO World heritage site bird sanctuary by the name ‘Keoladeo National park’ for migratory birds. A full day excursion to Agra for Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri fort.
Day 6 – 8: Ranthambore national park
Drive to Ranthambore. Accommodation in dome tents. Jungle safaris in open jeeps for tigers and other wildlife. Visit to the 1000 year old Ranthambore fort. Rajasthani cultural music, dinner with a local family, wildlife art and artists, camel ride (optional)
Day 9 – 10: The ‘Pink city’ of Jaipur
Drive to Jaipur. Accommodation in comfortable hostel. Visit to the Hawa Mahal, Nahargarh fort and Amer fort. Visit to a traditional village restaurant called Chauki Dhani for authentic Rajasthani meals. Street shopping excursion in the Bazaars.
Day 11 – 12: The ‘Sun city/Blue city of Jodhpur’
Drive to Jodhpur. Accommodation in comfortable hostel. Visit to Mehrangarh fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace. Shopping excursion for handicrafts.
Day 13 – 15: The ‘Golden city’ of Jaisalmer
Drive to Jaisalmer. Accommodation in dome tents set on sand dunes. Desert safari in the Desert national park looking for the endangered ‘Great Indian Bustard’, Indian gazelle etc. Traditional folk dance of the ‘Thar desert’. Visit to the Jaisalmer fort.
Day 16 – 17: Leopard country of Bera
Drive to Bera. Accommodation in dome tents. Wildlife safaris in the jungles around village Bera looking for leopards and other wildlife. Birding and crocodile tour in the backwaters of Jawai dam.
Day 18 – 19: Little Rann of Kutch
Leaving the state of Rajasthan and drive to Little Rann of Kutch in the state of Gujarat. Accommodation in traditional Kooba huts of Dasada village. Wildlife safaris in the cast salt pans and marshes of the Little Rann looking for Indian wild ass, desert fox, wolves, gazelles, flamingos, pelicans, raptors and hosts of other migratory and resident birds.
Day 20 - 22: Gir National park
Drive to Sasan, the main entrance to Gir. Accommodation will be in dome tents. The only home to the Asiatic lions is a world famous place. Other than Lions, it is also good for leopards. On days 21 & 22 we will do open jeep safaris in Gir.
Day 23 – 24: Indian savannah of Velavadar National park
Drive to Velavadar National park. Accommodation in dome tents. Wildlife safaris/walks in the grassland of Velavadar looking for Blackbucks, Indian wolves, hyenas, raptors and lots of other migratory and resident birds.
Day 25: Ahmedabad
Drive to Ahmedabad. Night halt at a comfortable city hotel.
Day 26: Indore
Drive to the city of Indore. Overnight stay at a comfortable hostel. No other activities are planned for this place.
Day 27 - 28: Satpura National Park
Drive to Madhai, which is the entry point for Satpura. Accommodation will be in dome tents. On day 28 we will do open jeep safaris in the national park looking for sloth bears, leopards, malabar giant squirrels and if we are lucky also tiger. Optional activities can be nature walks, night safari or elephant safari.
Day 29 - 31: Pench National Park
Drive to Turia, entry point to Pench. Accommodation will be in dome tents. Day 30 & 31 we will do open jeep safaris in the national park looking for tigers, wild dogs, leopards etc. Pench is where Rudyard Kipling’s ‘The jungle book’ is based.
Day 32 - 34: Kanha National Park
Drive to Mukki, the entrance to Kanha. Accommodation will be in dome tents. It is one of the richest jungles in India. On Days 33 & 34 we will do open jeep safaris in Kanha looking for tigers, leopards, sloth bears and gaur.
Day 35 - 37: Bandhavgarh National Park
Drive to Tala, the entry gate to Bandhavgarh. Accommodation will be in dome tents. Bandhavgarh arguably has the highest tiger density in India. On days 36 & 37 we will do open jeep safaris in Bandhavgarh looking for tigers, bears & leopards.
Day 38 - 39: Panna National Park
Drive to Panna. Accommodation will be in dome tents. Panna has one of the most interesting landscapes and habitat for tigers. It is very rich in big cat population. On day 39 and 38 morning, we will do open jeep safaris in Panna.
Day 40 - 41: Khajuraho
Short drive to Khajuraho. Accommodation will be in a budget hotel. Khajuraho is world famous for the ancient Kamasutra temples. They were build between 900 AD to 1130 AD and are today UNESCO World Heritage sites. On Day 40 evening we will go to the sound and light show where one can learn about the history of the place in a great way. On day 41 we will explore the western and eastern group of temples.
Day 42 - 44: Varanasi
Drive to the holy city of Varanasi. Accommodation will be in a budget hotel or hostel. It is one of the most famous backpacker destinations in India. There are less things to see and more experiences to take. One of the most interesting things is the Ganga Aarti in the evenings, also the boat ride on the Ganges. You will have 2 full days to explore Varanasi on your own.
Day 45: Muzaffarpur
Drive to Muzaffarpur. Accommodation will be in a comfortable city hotel. It is only a night halt to break the journey to Siliguri.
Day 46: Siliguri
Drive to Siliguri. Accommodation will be in a comfortable city hotel. This is where we will leave our overland vehicle for our journey to the Sunderbans. No activities are planned here.
Day 47: Kolkata
After our breakfast in Siliguri, we will drive to the Bagdogra airport and take our flight to Kolkata. Overnight stay in Kolkata in a comfortable city hotel.
Day 48 - 51: Sunderbans National park
Post breakfast today, we will drive to the port of Godkhali, which is the entrance to the Sunderbans. This is where we will meet our local guide and the house boat which will be our home for the next 4 days. The facilities on the houseboat are basic and rustic but neat and clean. We will have a common dorm type cabin to sleep, a proper western toilet and shower. All the meals will be cooked and served fresh by the staff onboard. The best part is the top viewing deck which has great views and where we will be spending most of our time.
Day 52: Siliguri
The houseboat will drop us back at Godkhali, from where we will drive to Kolkata airport for our flight to Siliguri. Accommodation in Siliguri will be in a comfortable hotel.
Day 53 - 55: Manas National Park
Drive to Manas. Accommodation will be in dome tents. Manas is one of the most interesting wildlife destinations in India. It is home to so many rare/lesser known creatures like the elusive clouded leopard, black panther, leopard, tiger, martins and some big herbivores like the Indian rhino, asiatic elephant and gaur. On days 54 and 55 we will do full day open jeep safaris.
Day 56 - 58: Kaziranga National Park
Drive to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kaziranga. Accommodation will be in dome tents. Kaziranga has the highest population of one horned rhinos in the world. It is also home to tigers, elephants, swamp deer and many other creatures big and small. On days 57 & 58 we will do full day open jeep safaris in the national park.
Day 59 - 60: Guwahati
Finishing up in Kaziranga, we will drive to the city of Guwahati. Accommodation will be in a comfortable city hotel. The trip ends on Day 60 after breakfast.
